A new career in digital marketing

The world of business and marketing has been completely changed with the rise of digital marketing. As the demand for digital marketing skills grows, many employers are offering attractive salaries, career advancement and other benefits to attract and retain the best talent. Digital marketing can level the marketing playing field and allow businesses to sell their products online and engage with customers globally. So, how can you take advantage of this growth?

What are the top digital marketing jobs?

Digital marketing skills are in high demand. Many people build their skills to achieve promotions and advance their career or move from other roles into digital marketing. While there are a wide range of roles available, here are three of the most desired.

Digital Marketing Manager

The Digital Marketing Manager is responsible for setting the direction of an organisation’s digital marketing strategy and ensuring that it is achieved by managing teams and agencies. This is a generalist role which requires a strong knowledge of digital marketing areas such as inbound marketing, content marketing, social media marketing, search engine optimisation (SEO), online advertising and analytics. This leadership role also requires strong skills in digital marketing strategy to ensure that the digital marketing activities meet the organisation’s objectives and delivers a return on investment.

Social Media Manager

Social Media Managers are specialists with in-depth knowledge of social media marketing (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Snapchat). They understand how to effectively use social media to create great content, engage customers, build brand presence and utilise social media advertising. Their role combines creative and analytical skills. Social Media Managers must be able to connect with audiences and ensure that social media contributes to the overall success of the organisation.

Content Marketer

Content Marketers love content and can often be found working from home, writing the next killer blog or shooting the next big promotional video. Many start as bloggers or media professionals and later use business skills to combine their creative talents into a compelling package. Content is a key part of every organisation’s inbound marketing strategy and is needed to support SEO, ecommerce, social media marketing and engage audiences. A great piece of content can win awards and leave a lasting impression in a customer’s mind while a great content marketing strategy can help organisations build market share, gain new customers and succeed.
